Facial Pain

  • sharp, unilateral stabbing pain
  • may be triggered by eating, drinking, brushing teeth
  • pain lasts seconds, but recurs frequently
  • usually over 50

  • pain begins in throat or ear
  • sharp stabbing unilateral pain that may extend into face
  • at times pain triggered by swallowing
  • often occurs at night

  • severe constant pain over one side of the face
  • stimuli do not trigger pain

  • facial pain with hot and cold water or food
  • may have foul taste in mouth
  • pain in upper or lower jaw
  • tooth pain

  • episodes of facial pain
  • eye pain

  • episodes of pain usually last 15-30 minutes

  • nasal congestion

  • fever and malaise
  • swelling of testicles

  • rash develops in area of pain in several days
  • pain may persist after rash disappears
