Fibromyalgia is also known as fibrositis. It is a disease which is varcharacterized by pain and tenderness in many muscles and ligaments. It is associated with severe fatigue. The symptoms tend to recur quite often and usually last several days at a time. Although anyone may be afflicted, the disorder is more common in women between the ages of 20 and 50. Evaluation of the muscles and ligaments do not show any damage to these tissues.

The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. Fatigue, sleep disturbances, and emotional stress have all been associated with this disorder.

Signs and Symptoms of Fibromyalgia

Diffuse pain and stiffness occurs in the muscles. The stiffness tends to be worse in the morning. Chronic fatigue is seen. People afflicted with this disorder commonly have difficulty sleeping.
