Orbital cellulitis produces typical signs of infection in the skin around the eye. There may be swelling of the eyelid and occasional restricted movement of the eyeball. A history of sinusitis is common.

Causes of Orbital Cellulitis

Sinus disease is the most common cause of orbital cellulitis. Dental infections, ear infections, trauma, dacrocystitis are other causes. A long list of rare causes may be found

Signs and Symptoms of Orbital Cellulitis

Fever and chills may be present. There is swelling of the eyelids and the skin is red, warm and tender. There is eye pain. the eyeball may become prominent. There may be increased sensitivity of the skin above or below the eyeball. If double vision, blurred vision or an enlarged pupil should develop, it might suggest the development of an orbital abscess.
